MY Love of Yarn!

Well in honor of Valentines day I thought I post some of the things I love beside my family. I also remembered I hadn't posted my pictures of the yarn I got when I was in Germany. Here is the Bravo from Germany. My son also sent me a few more skeins for my Birthday. The Scarf is one I started for my daughter while I flying home for 9 hrs. I finished a hat while I was there but she has already run off with it. LOL
The cones are my precious Peaches & Creme that will be no more as of February 25. Pisgah Yarn was bought by Spinrite which is a Canadian company that owns Sugar & Cream. I am so bummed about it and have placed my final orders this week.WAAAA!
The last picture is some Redheart Eco yarn that I won in a contest last year and also some Moon & Stars baby yarn. OH yes I have lots more but it would takes days to post it. Also have about 20 cones of Peaches & Creme coming soon. YAY!!

Year Went Fast

Well 2010 sure went fast! I hope to keep my Blog updated each month this year..LOL I think I said that last year. We had a great Christmas and I did many cloths but to many to post. I will post a couple of the ones that I do on a regular basis. I'm hoping to get my Scrubbie Crochet pattern typed up and posted to my blog. I have had a lot of request for it on Ravelry. Well here are the cloth patterns I do for family & friends. The one is from the 3 Easy dishcloths on Ravelry. The other is called Easy Dishcloth from Bernat & I think you have to sign up for free membership to get it.

The Other is called Garter Ridges. They both are very quick to knit up and I of course always use my beloved American made Peaches & Creme! Oh and I finally figured out how to make my dishcloth bands on the printer. I am pleased how they turned out :)

Well I have really gotten behind, but have been really busy. Thought I would post a few pictures from my trip to Germany first and then post a few of the projects I'm working on. These are from the town of Bitburg where my son lives. It is not far from Spangdahlem Air Force Base where he is stationed. The one with the field and town behind it is taken from my son's dining room window. The cows are down the hill from his house on a farm we walked by everyday when went for walks. The one of the church is from a walk we took also. The one with the shops is where Marie and I went shopping. It is a beautiful country and I really enjoyed myself and I bought quite a bit of yarn from a couple shops.

Well lots of things going on at the moment.. Most important is the birth of my 7th Grandchild Riley Jean McGuire. My son & DIL are both in the USAF and live in Germany. She was born Sunday July 18th and I can't wait to hold her. My son & DIL have bought me a ticket to Germany and I leave Aug 2nd til Aug25th. So I have been getting together the things I have made for her. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much knitting and not any crocheting . I have been sewing some receiving blankets and burp cloths and that has been fun to sew for a change. I have sharp pains shooting into my shoulder and up into my neck and they seem to think it is the carpal tunnel so I have started steroids for now and go back to the Dr. July 27th. Well here are few things I did get done before this flair up. I love the Ballerina booties and hope they fit the Philipino Princess! All of these were done in Peaches & Creme cotton yarn. And a Ruffled Hat to go with them. These were so fun and I loved working with pink yarn!

Earth & Sun Blanket

Some variations to a fun Blanket pattern from Lisa Gentry.. I really love this pattern and I have done several in different yarns. The first and second were in the new Moon & Stars by Redheart. It is so soft and pretty.

And the third one I did was done with the Eco Cotton Blend by Red Heart.
I plan on doing another in the Peaches & Creme
cotton or the Mercerized cabled cotton 940.

Some Easter Fun

Well I almost let April get away! Denton has gone back to work in Nashville Tennessee, so have been getting some Spring cleaning done. I wanted to post some things I did for Easter. First is my new center- piece Easter basket. This was originally a treasure basket and was a design by Lisa Gentry who is one of my favorite designers. You can check out her designs at her website by following this link. The Treasure Basket was also a contest in the Hook & Needle Group on Ravelry and I won it so I posted a photo of my winnings. It is a really fun and chatty group on Ravelry and I have made some wonderful friends there.Lisa is a wonderful designer and quite generous with her designs and winning prize packages. She has just ventured into dyeing her own line of yarn called Hummywinger (named after the Moderator of the Group). So you will find lots of my projects are Lisa Gentry designs! Here's my Easter basket.

Crocheted Hotpads

I finally got around to crocheting a really fun Hot pad I have been wanting to do. It is really fun to do with just motifs joined in a circle and the results are wonderful. It's the Starburst Hotpad and there is a video that helps explain the positioning of the motifs. I really love this and plan on doing some in spring colors.

Well this just a few of the things I have been doing an I will post some more this weekend. I have been doing some sweaters that are crocheted and finished some socks. I did some wonderful baby things and will post them soon.

Dishcloths

Wanted to post one of my favorite dishcloth patterns other than the ballband. It is the garterlac dishcloth by Dave at Criminy Jickets. I really love this with P&C variegated yarns and the results are always wonderful! Here are some of mine from my Christmas knitting. I used this great Entrelac cast on for mine and I really love that it is stretchy and wonderful for this pattern and other Entrelac patterns.

Sorry it has been a really long time since my last post. Life just seems to be rolling at a fast pace.Wow, what a winter we have been having! It has been snowy, cold and dreary. New Patio for Summer Fun

We decided to do a patio for the new Gazebo and make a great place for family gatherings. Of course since Denton does concrete work for a living he wanted to do it himself..(with the help of his sons)

The patio turned out great and we have had lots of fun cookouts. I love the family photo..Just me and my daughter are missing...Oh and the 6 grandkids.

Blanket from Ballband Dishcloths you say?

Last year I was in a contest in the Ravelry Peaches & Creme group to see who could do the most ballband dishcloths. Well there were many who got over a hundred done and a lot more than I did. I think I did 45 and decided to make a blanket with mine. Here is the stack of ballband cloths I did and them laid out before I decided how to join them.

I decided to join them with Ballband stitch design... then decided on the black and white so all the other colors would pop. I think I counted 17 solid colors and 20 variegated colors in the blanket.. That is counting the black and white.

This is the final blanket..It is on a queen bed yo show it spread out, but was made for a twin bed. I then entered it in the Highland County OH fair and won 2nd place in the Large Knitted Afghan category.

WOW! What a Summer

I have had such a busy summer and will be posting till Christmas to get all caught up! First I have been painting and fixing up our house... So sick of beige walls we've had for almost 5 yrs. We also had concrete patio poured and a gazebo to put over it. (Patio done by my hubby). The Highland Co. Fair first of Sept. and I entered my knitting and crocheting for the first time. The same week my son and his wife Marie were here for her first visit to OH. First time we met her & we stayed busy that week and then My Step-daughter and I just got back from Myrtle Beach!

Soooo I better start posting some pics. First here is the spare bedroom that I redecorated. This is the room that used to be my dad's for the short few months he was living with us. I haven't had the heart to change it since he passed in Feb. 2007. So this was a healing process for me also and I love my new beach themed spare room. In fact I sleep there when my husband is out of town...which has been most of the summer.

SHAME ON ME!

Yes it has been nearly two months since my last post. I don't really have a good excuse except that I have been very busy. I have been cleaning and organizing my house. I have also started some painting and trying to finish it up. We have planted a huge garden and I have planted another rose bush in honer of my mom, along with a lot of other flowers. I got my fountain going again and planted some pots. So here are a few of my favorite things!
My Grand-daughter painted the gnome and ended up looking like a leprechaun. I love it!

Well these are some of my wonderful flowers and maybe next month I will have lots of veggies to show! I will do another post later this week so I will be all caught up.

Spring Organizing

Yes Chris I do need to update my blog! It has been too long, but I made it before the month is up. Well I have finally gotten my yarn closet organized and marked so I can find my yarn with out digging all day. That gives me more time to knit and crochet. Then it's up to the sewing room to get it in shape and get the dust off that sewing machine! Here is my closet and yes it is mostly full of Peaches and Creme cotton and lots of their other yarn!
These are the bins that are on wheels and slide to the side of the closet and are easy to roll out.

These are my cones of 930 cotton..but I haven't got all 130 colors yet. The basket on the bottom of the black shelves are scarf kits and the one on the bottom of white shelf is skeins of 930 cotton. The top of the closet has some Double Worsted 980 and some other yarns like my sock yarn and Bernat. I have baskets of my Knitpicks yarn and some of the novelty yarn from Julia's Crafts that sit on top of the rolling carts. It is so much easier this way and I can always change it.

These cute little birds are going to be great for my grandson to learn his colors. There were quick and easy and they are Birds of a Feather . The Spring flower tree was made from flowers by Lisa Gentry from her flower ball pattern on Ravelry

Way to Go Shawl & Mirror Lake Scarf

Joined another great group on Ravelry! it is the Lisa's Designs Group(Lisa Gentry) and is such a great place to learn and have fun doing it. Lisa has some amazing patterns and wished I had time to do them all. I did some of her angels for nice little gifts for friends. I did get my Way to Go Shawl finished and it turn out wonderful!! I did it with Rayon Super Petalspun from Peaches and Creme . The peach color was so nice and very soft and easy to crochet with. Here are a few pictures of my progress. And I will try to get a picture badge posted to side of my blog.
The Mirror Lake Scarf was another fun pattern. It was made of 8 motifs and then stitched together for the scarf. I made this for my niece that just loves green. It was done with Peaches and Creme Cabled cotton in Lime green. I love how the cabled cotton holds it's shape and very nice to crochet with as well.

Mittens and Stockings

Trying to get some miniature knitted decorations done to put on my tree this year. I also found a pattern for a crocheted tree skirt that I would like to get done. It is called 7 Hour Tree Skirt and got it out of my Crochet World magazine.

Halloween Bath Set

I made this bath set with a spider soap sack and a web washcloth. My little grandson Braden snatched it up real quick, but I did manage to get a picture of it.

It's been over a month since my trip with my best friend Debbie. We went to Old Fort NC all by ourselves and it was an 8 hr drive including our stop at Cracker Barrel of course. Debbie did all the driving and I was so proud of her, but she did say a bad word a couple of times. LOL

We went to the workshops at Pisgah Yarns in Old Fort. The Peaches & Creme yarn was so awesome and the colors were so intense! The workshops were held at Crooked Creek Firehouse and everything was so great. We had the best time and are already planning for next years workshops. So here's some photos at the workshop and no I'm not in any of them.
The ladies on each end are from Operation Toasty- Toes (Back row-Left to right) Maile- Knitting classes (Designer), Cindy - Loom Weaving teacher, Flo -Hostess with mostest(Princess Peaches of Pisgah), Brian -crochet classes(Designer)

Here's a few of the ladies in one of Maile's knitting classes on Tues. They were on a lunch break or another cake break. We had two birthday cakes for Gerry's(Brian's brother) birthday trying to make him older than he already is. SSHH I'm not telling his age, but he doesn't look it.

AUGUST Came & Went!

Wow!! Where did August go? I usually try to post at least once a month and shame on me, no post in August. Well I have been knitting lots of things and have finished quite a few too. Of course I've started more projects than I've finished. My list of things to do is getting longer too. Well I better get busy putting some posts together on this here blog, before you all get bored and don't come back. LOL Ok here goes!
First of all I want to put a picture of the beautiful scarf I'm doing.

I started this scarf in Old Fort, NC at the first knitting ,crocheting and weaving workshops by Pisgah Yarns. It was amazing and so much fun! I met lots of people that I have been chatting with on Ravelry and it was so cool!!I will post some more photos and more info at a later date. This scarf was designed by Maile Mauch and one of many she has designed. You can get them at Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Company. The Cable one I'm doing is done in Rayon Super Petalspun and it is so soft!! I love the the color which is Teak. I will put a progress bar up so you kept track of it and make sure I'm not slacking.

I did the turtle while in NC and did the cloth and back-scrubber when I got home. Gave it to my grandson Braden and he loves it!!

Another Contest Winning

The other contest I won was in my yahoo group Shirleys Knitting Knook. It is a fun and friendly group with lots of great KALs and wonderful people! I just want to thank Shirley, Mel, Amy-lynne for such a great group and lots of fun. I should add Shirley's daughter Chantal too, because she has just started posting the daily rows for some of our KALS. They all do a great job!! Oh yea I won a prize for the Circle of Friendship Caddy I knitted in our June Mid Month KAL!! It was great fun and I plan on making more for Christmas gifts. I loved the cables in it and was good practice, because I'm kind of awkward doing cables. This was designed by Shirley and was wonderful to do. Here's my caddy.

Speaking of Contest!!

Well since I'm speaking of contests I have won 2 just last month and haven't had time to post about them. Ok, I haven't made time to post!The first contest was on Ravelry in the Peaches-Creme group I'm in. We have lots of fun there and it's not totally about Peaches&Creme yarn, but mostly it is. Most people think cotton is just for dishcloths and this group shows that it is not just for dishcloths! The contest was to see how many projects you could do in the month of June. I won with a total of 100 projects! So that was a lot gifts I got finished. Unfortunately I can't post all the pictures, but they are in my projects on Ravelry. I can post the pictures of my wonderful prize package of my favorite yarn!!Peaches&Cream I also recieved the title of Princess Knitsalot!

What a prize this was and I was so thrilled with their generosity. There is an assortment of all the Pisgah yarn products which isn't just Peaches& Creme. I will be posting some of the projects I do with this wonderful yarn!!

On The Ballband Wagon

Well I have been knitting for as long as I can remember and have never done a ballband dishcloth. Once I did that first one, well I just couldn't stop. Here a few of my first ones, and they make great gifts! The BB scrubbers are great too! I found the scrubbie patterns on Ravelry (My second home). These are great for travel knitting, because after the first one you don't need a pattern. I did most of these at the beach on the Lake where we camp. You can find the pattern here for dishcloth. FISHY BATH SET

Well I really have neglected my blog, but I have been finishing lots of UFOs. So I will try to get them on my blog in the next few days along with a few other exciting things.

This is my fishy bath set that is finally finished. Love the double-worsted from Peaches & Creme!! The rug and back-scrubber and the yellow ombre cloth are done in the Dbl. worsted. These were the Oopsie Daisie bath set available at Peaches&Cream and linked through the progress bar here on my blog. I love making the little fish and experimenting with them. YARNTAINERS & BRAS

My hubby was nice enough to help with making my yarntainers. I couldn't hammer the rivets in hard enough and I'm not very good with a drill. I didn't want to damage my knitting hands. LOL I decided to do these because I knit outside a lot in the summer and take my knitting camping of course. There was no way I was going to pay $10 for one (Heck that's a cone & 2 skeins of Peaches & Creme) and I only have $8 in all 3 of these. The rivets cost almost $5, and I have plenty more to make some more yarntainers.

As for my yarn bras they cost a whole $1 for 2 bath puffs. I saw these on someone else's blog, but can't remember it. When you cut the string in the middle you get a long tube of netting. I measured mine and it was 7 feet long. That's quite a few yarn bras. Just thought everyone would like ideas for saving money for more yarn!!

My Yellow Rose

This is my only rose bush at the moment. I have never tried growing roses, but I transplanted my mom's after she passed away. This is the only one that survived and was my mom's favorite. She had some beautiful roses and I had hoped the other 2 I transplanted would survive.

What's In My Garden

Well here are a few of the fun things in my front garden. There are 4 baby bunnies in the back of my tiger lilies. And the eggs are a mama finch's' in an evergreen bush. Wish I had a better picture of the hummingbird. I'm sure I will have more at a later time. I love my flowers too, but the little animals are fun to watch.

Jess's Baby Shower

Here's all the baby things I've been making for my niece Jess's baby shower. She is having a boy as you can see from all the blue. I had fun trying to get it all in the gift bags I got. Guess I should have gottin bigger bags.

Here's all the good food we had at the shower. It turned out real nice and we played lots of fun games.She got a lot of really nice things and pretty much everything she needed. Now if baby Conner would just get here. He was due on April 7 and still not here.

ST. Patricks Day Projects

Ready For Spring!!!

Well these were taken on Monday when it almost got up to 70degrees. So my Crocus's are ready for spring too!! I can't wait for the tulips. So maybe I will find some bright and cheery flower dishcloths to knit.

Just when I get my hopes up we get get the worst blizzard since 1978. What a bummer that was! We got 5 inches Friday and another 11 inches Friday night and Sat. We were under a blizzard warning till 4pm Sat. and on a level 3 snow emergency where I live.

These were taken Friday 4 days later and you can't even see my poor fairy. Yuk!

These were Saturday afternoon and it was hard to tell how much we really got because of the snow drifts. In the back of the house there were 3 foot snow drifts.

You can't even tell where the road is,and they don't plow to often out here.That is my DH leaving and we are on a level 3, only emergency vehicles are supposed to be on the road. Of all things he's go to go look at a boat for sale! LOL. I guess it was an emergency and he was afraid someone else would buy it! Well he must be wishing for Spring too!

Sewing & Knitting

I have finally been able to do some sewing. We keep the door closed to our upstairs and thats where my sewing room is. If it gets in the 40's it's not bad up there if I open the door in the morning. And not to bad on our heat bill. I have been making these really cute covers with pockets for 5 quart buckets. The teachers at my SIL school love them for organizing supplies for there clasrooms. I have made several for baby shower gifts and then put baby supplies in the pockets. I love to sew and always doing some type of projects.

As for knitting I have several projects going as usual. My dishcloth KAL's as always and several baby things for upcoming baby showers. With the cold and snowy weather, knitting is the perfect thing to keep me busy. I really liked doing these cute baby bibs in Bernat Chunky yarn. The little blue hat and mittens is in Caron's Simply Soft Baby.

These are some of the things I done in the cottontots yarn. I love knitting with this yarn that is so soft and great for baby cloths. I have yellow cloth to finish and then I need to get busy on my St Paddy's day projects. I only have 1 week left. Wow!! Then Easter is the week after. Well I will be very busy for the next few weeks!!

No More Snow!

I am so sick of winter and so very much ready for spring! This our road Thursday morning with 3 inches of snow and Fri morning with ice on top of it. I had to skate out to the mailbox to get the mail. Well makes for lots of time for knitting by the fire. I guess that's what I get for living out in the country in Ohio.

Baby Oh Baby

These are the baby booties and Hats I have been making for my niece's babies. One we know is a boy the other we don't know yet. I love doing these baby things. I will do mittens to go with them.
I got all these patterns online so that was real nice for free patterns. I should look up the designers so I can give them credit.
The blue and yellow set was done in Carons soft baby yarn. The multi one is Red Heart Econo multi yarn.
This camo one is for the baby boy and I haven't done booties yet.

Well I have been trying new things this year and socks on dpn's is one of them. I started my first pair on New Years and did finsh them. I love them and they could be a little tighter.

Here is my next pair of socks. I got this Liesure Arts book that is very helpful.

One more sock to go!! I love this yarn. It is Sirdar Snuggly DK yarn from UK.

Knitting and more knitting

Well I have been doing really good at finishing my knitting that I 've started. And here are few of them. Mackenzie keeps thinking of things for her Nana to make her. I now think it's so she can model it in pictures.

Here she is in her Tasseled Hat I made her and mittens to match. Such a show-off, but cute!!
Her little brother Braden isn't as happy to model his hat that Nanna made. I think I need to make one in camo to match his coat.

Mittens to match

I recently knitted a hat and fingerless gloves for my granddaughter Mackenzie. She loved them of course, (she likes anything her Nanna makes) and asked what else I could make her out of the rest of the yarn. She said we should use it all so we don't waste it. She is 7 and wise beyond her years. So I just had to make something else and decided on a tasseled hat and mittens to match.

Mackenzie is my biggest fan she loves it when I make her things and really does my heart good.

Well it has been a few weeks since my last post and I want to try and update every week. So here is what I 've been doing besides cleaning ,laundry ,cooking for DH and taking care of 3 dogs and my grandchildren on the weekends. I am also in another knitting group on yahoo. I love these groups, they are such nice and talented people. COTW (Cloth Of The Week) do a different cloth every week. Monthly Dishcloths do 2 dishcloth a month, 1 beginning of the month and a mid-month one. I have been learning lots of new stitches and techniques. So now I will post my dishcloths as I finish them.

Lighthouse in Cromer

This is my 2 younger brothers and I in Cromer England. Our mom was from Norwich and met our dad in Cromer. He was in the USAF and based in England where they met in 1957. We went there this past June to spread their ashes out in the ocean. This was a request by them to be taken back to where they met. This is the Lighthouse they would walk to 50 years ago. This was of coarse an emotional trip, but wonderful to see where our mother grew up. It was amazing to be in the country see dearly loved, but left to come to Ohio and raised 4 children.
